Jon Dinney and RaeAnn Ladouceur, owners of the new Home Furniture store in Exeter held their grand opening today. After 124 years, Dinney's furniture closed its doors in June, re-opening under the Home Furniture name. Regional and general managers of Home Furniture were also on hand for the opening.

Today the Governments of Canada and Ontario announced more than $3.7 million in funding for new affordable housing for seniors in Clinton. 31 new affordable housing rental units will be built for seniors living on low income in Huron County. The project received more than $5.3 million in funding from all levels of government.

The normally quiet Village of Zurich celebrated its 45th annual Bean Festival, complete with weather that was made to order for the enjoyment of thousands of visitors.
Originally a fundraiser for the agricultural society, the Zurich Bean Festival has grown into one of the largest and most successful village fairs in the country.

GreenField Ethanol updated the community on the status of the planned Hensall plant in Hensall at a town hall meeting hosted by GreenField Ethanol and the Municipality of Bluewater January 21. GreenField Chairman and founder Mr. Kenneth Field made a presentation to the public explaining why the project has been halted and what his company has done and is doing in the meantime.

The Government of Canada Invested $772,000 into Pulse Canada to develop a herbicide that will dry crops faster for easier harvesting. James T. Field Memorial Airport in Huron Park. With the support of the HBDC and its partners the training facility is expected to create or retain 60 skilled manufacturing jobs by 2010, with an additional 235 jobs added by 2015.

50 years later Ola Kjus and his wife Turi from Norway visit the site his brother Tore Kjus was killed after being struck by a car near Grand Bend. Tore Kjus was part of the Norwegian student pilot contingent training at the former RCAF Station Centralia at the time. Ola and Turi were taken on a tour of Exeter town hall and later Goderich Aircraft in Huron Park where Tore would have been stationed.
Pilot Hugh Shields provided flyovers and information on the
DeHavilland Chipmunk, the type of plane Tore was training in as a tribute for the family.

The Avon-Maitland District School Board heard public delegations at their April 28 meeting held at Usborne public school again with a common point, being that the board needs to look at all of the schools, and not just Usborne says Helen Keady, Usborne School Council Representative. Avon-Maitland District School Board staff recommend closing Usborne while the Accommodation Review Committee recommended a deferral. The trustees make the final decision in June.

Also performing was the OPP Golden Helmets Precision Motorcycle Team local Fire Dept. and others. The Grand Bend Motorplex held its biggest racing event of the year July 18th to 20th , which draws tens of thousands to the area for the 3 day event and the only one of its kind in Ontario. Despite the rain delays, the racing was able to continue into the finals on Sunday. The Mopar Canadian Nationals was the 6th of 10 national events on the IHRA Nitro Jam series schedule.
